Happy New Year!! Whoo!! 2013! If I remember correctly... That is the year that I come home! Holy cow. How unreal is that!? Pretty unreal if you ask me. It sounds like you guys had such a good Christmas season and I was so happy and grateful to get to spend a little of it with you! Skyping with you was really fun and almost too much! I didn't wanna leave you guys! But as you know, missionary work must go on, and the word must be preached! So that's what I am doing! I bet that Shelby is super excited for her new Jeep! You see a lot of Jeeps here which is pretty cool... What a spoiled little girl! Like you said though she worked hard, so she deserved it! It was fun the talk to Lindsay and Kevin and the kids as well! They are all getting so big and growing up! And Ben! Sheesh! Talk about a trip... Seeing him run around and walk and do all that stuff was really bizarre I didn't expect it at all. Like I said, I was very happy to get to talk with all of you and love you all! And I hope that that turkey tasted good... Because the fufu that I ate did ;)
For me, the rest of Christmas day was pretty normal... Went home, did some laundry, read some scriptures, and just kinda hung out with my comp and the other missionaries in the apartment. I got some good news too! I got transferred WHOO!!! I got the call on Saturday afternoon thanking me for the work I did in Ablogamé and am now in the sector of Attiegou! The missionaries call this sector "the (backside) of Togo". I have heard a lot of things about it as well, but am coming in with my head high! The Leavitts came and picked me up this morning around 9:00 and then we went to the border to pick up some other missionaries, then they took me back and dropped me off at my apartment. It is nicer than the apartment that I was just in, because it is new. I have yet to see the church or meet any amis so that will all happen this week and I will let you know about all of that. So far, It is really good! I have already unpacked and am all settled in. My companions name is Elder Ramananjanahary and he is from Madagascar "I like to move it move it!" Haha. I knew him a little before and had talked to him just a little bit. He seems like a really nice guy and I am excited to get to know him more and work with him! I am still not living with an American... I am living with another Frenchie and a Congolese. I really like the Elders that I am living with so I am happy! And the branch that I am in is going to use the big new building which is going to be so nice! I will take some pictures of it and let you guys know how it is!
Jaqueline and her 3 little girls. (from Oct 2012) |
Saying goodbye to my investigators and recent converts was definitely harder this time around... I cried when I said goodbye to Jaqueline and she cried too... I have been with her for 7 months! When she explained to her girls that I was leaving, the oldest one Gracia said that she was mad at me and went into the house and wouldn't come out... (she did finally come out and say goodbye which was good) I told them that there would be another missionary coming in that they would love just as much! After staying about an hour at her house we finally left. Unfortunately I will probably never see her again... I will do my best to keep in touch with her and make sure that she is doing well! Agathe cried when I told her that I was leaving too... I didn't cry when I said goodbye to her though... She was with her boyfriend Isaac, who is the Elders Quorum president, and so I knew that I was leaving her in good hands! I will try and send some pictures of us all saying goodbye at Church.
I look forward to writing you guys next Monday and telling you about how this new sector is! I am sure it will be another fun, exciting experience. I love you guys and can't wait to hear back from you and how your New Years was! Any resolutions?? Do your best to keep em! I love you all and pray for you always! Have a good one and remember to stay strong!
Love,
Elder Landon Dean Layton
*Elder Layton said that he tried to upload pictures but they wouldn't. Maybe this new cyber won't be as good as the last one. So happy we skyped before he left Ablogame!
